Care Philosophy
We Look Beyond the Teeth
Where teeth are in a face are a combination of more than just genetics. Our goal is to understand what we see. We want to understand why a pattern developed and how breathing, sleep, oral function, facial growth, and dental structure may be working together.
This begins by slowing down and listening.
We Listen First
Your experiences, concerns, and goals provide essential context. We take the time to understand what brought you to us and what you hope to change.
We Evaluate the Whole Picture
We examine breathing patterns, tongue function, oral posture, growth, dental development, sleep concerns, and other relevant factors rather than concentrating on one symptom in isolation.
We Educate Before We Recommend
You deserve to understand what we see and why it matters. We explain our findings, answer your questions, and discuss appropriate options before asking you to make treatment decisions.
We Create a Personalized Path
No two patients have the same history or needs. Your recommendations may involve one treatment or a coordinated combination of therapies designed around your specific situation.
Our Airway Services
Our services support children and adults at different stages of growth, development, and life. Treatment recommendations are based on each patient’s evaluation—not a predetermined protocol.
Airway Evaluations and Sleep Studies
A comprehensive airway evaluation helps us examine how oral structures, breathing patterns, growth, and sleep may be connected. Our examinations may review sleep studies, x-ray imaging, and collaborative reviews from other providers.
Sleep studies: our office offers at-home sleep studies for patients who qualify. When appropriate, an at-home sleep study can provide additional information about nighttime breathing, oxygen levels, and sleep quality.
Myofunctional Therapy
Myofunctional therapy uses individualized exercises to retrain the tongue, lips, and facial muscles. Therapy can support nasal breathing, proper oral rest posture, healthy swallowing patterns, and long-term stability following orthodontic or frenectomy treatment.
Laser Frenectomies
The tongue needs to be able to freely move. A restrictive tongue-tie or lip-tie may contribute to feeding, speech, swallowing, oral-development, or breathing concerns. Laser frenectomy care releases restrictive tissue as part of a thoughtfully planned approach focused on restoring function.
Airway-Focused Orthodontics
Airway-focused orthodontics considers more than the position of the teeth. By guiding jaw growth and dental-arch development, treatment can create additional room for the tongue while supporting oral function, facial development, and breathing.
Habit Cessation
Thumb sucking, prolonged pacifier use, nail biting, mouth breathing, and improper tongue posture can influence oral development over time. We help children and families replace these patterns with healthier habits that support breathing, growth, and function.
This Work Is Personal To Us
This Work Is Personal To Us
A Personal Story
Dr. Joanna Dover’s path toward airway-focused care began with a question: why were so many patients experiencing conditions that might have been addressed earlier in life?
The work became even more personal when each of her three children experienced myofunctional disorders requiring therapy, tongue-tie release, and palate expansion. Those experiences strengthened her belief that dentistry should look beyond repairing teeth and consider the conditions that help a person breathe, sleep, grow, and function well.
Today, Dr. Dover and Kayla Viola combine dental experience, myofunctional expertise, continuing education, and compassionate care to help patients and families understand the bigger picture.
